Carson City Youth Scholarship Program
Established to Assist Families Who Cannot Afford to Pay the Full
Parks Program Fees for Their Children

The Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation has undertaken an effort with the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department to establish the Youth Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund will help financially-needy families pay the cost of a child’s participation in recreational programs.

Programs offered by the Parks Department provide for the social interaction and the physical activity critical for children’s development and growth. The Foundation established and provided seed money for the scholarship fund because of its belief that a child’s participation in such programs helps them grow up to be better and healthier citizens.

Once fully developed, the scholarship program will enable children in families of limited means to access many of the programs currently available for youth. The scholarship fund is intended to help as many families as possible by offsetting a portion of program registration costs.

Eligible programs will include but are not limited to:

  • Swim lessons
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Junior Lifeguard
  • Youth sport leagues (basketball, volleyball)
  • Outdoor education programs (camps, ski programs, etc.)
  • Art classes and workshops
  • Aquatic Facility memberships
