In late 2017, the Foundation for Carson City Parks & Recreation polled dog-park users to determine which projects identified by the Parks and Recreation Department they would most like to see undertaken at the dog parks in Fuji Park and Sonoma Park.

The responses overwhelmingly supported three projects, all having to do with providing or improving existing access to water for dogs. The Foundation underwrote the projects with funds specifically designated for dog-park improvements. At the Sonoma Park dog park, the Parks and Recreation Department installed a dog fountain with a concrete surround, and at Fuji Park both dog watering facilities were upgraded with concrete pads and improved drainage.

Former board member Donna Curtis, a longtime advocate for Carson City’s parks, was acknowledged for her early role in facilitating these improvement projects. The improvement project at Fuji Park was completed in May 2018.
